Purple Mombin
Purple Mombin (Mexican plum, Spondius Purpurea, Spondias purpurea, jocote, Hog Plum, Makok, Amra, Sirigela, Siriguela, Ciriguela, Ciruela). The homeland of mombin is tropical America from Mexico to Brazil and the Caribbean, it was later naturalized in Nigeria, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
One of the names of purple mombin is “Ciruela”, sometimes used in Latin America, “plum” is literally translated from Spanish, and, in fact, it is also used to denote ordinary plum. And the Spaniards themselves use a different name for mombin – “jocote”. So look, do not be surprised at the possible confusion with this chitroconserved fruit! The fruits are oval oblong up to 5 cm long with a thin skin that can be red, yellow, purple or orange (the latter option looks very much like kumquat …). The yellow flesh has a fibrous structure; it is fragrant, juicy, and the taste is sweet and sour. Inside there is one large bone with grooves.
It contains a lot of B vitamins, vitamin C, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper.
